FAQ

GENERAL QUESTIONS

Q: What's a Zine?
A Zine is a fan-created, non-official publication dedicated to a certain genre that’s typically read by other fans with similar interests! It can contain many forms of media, but the most common ones are pieces of artwork or short stories.

Q: What does non-profit mean?
Non-Profit refers to the fact that no mods or contributors will make money from the production and distribution of this zine. Any money made from this project will be donated to a charity (although as of right now, the charity itself is still being decided on).

Q: What is a Pinch Hitter?
A Pinch Hitter refers to someone that fills in at the last minute. If a contributor is unable to participate in the zine and needs to leave early in the creative deadline, then a Pinch Hitter will be asked to take their place to create something. If you’re wishing to apply as a Pinch hitter, be it as a writer or an artist, you will possibly be asked to fill in for someone else if something happens to them.

Q: I have a question that’s currently not on the FAQ or really anywhere. Can I ask it to you?
If you have any questions that are not already answered on the FAQ or blog, you’re absolutely welcomed and encouraged to ask it in either the Zine Email, the Tumblr Askbox or our Curiouscat! Whatever you’d feel most comfortable doing.
We’ll do our best to answer questions as frequently as possible!

Q: Why make a zine about unpopular characters?
This zine was made for characters that are often underrepresented by the source material and the community. Characters that are often left out / excluded from merchandise (official or fanmade), fanart and fanfictions, or could just use more love compared to the amounts of other characters that do.
Every character has their fans. And those fans need something too!

Q: How do you determine who an “unpopular” character is?
There are many factors taken into consideration when making this zine, since the idea of what an “unpopular character” is can be skewed or biased depending on who you ask, which we’ve tried our best not to be.
The general sources used to determine what makes a character unpopular include:
Merchandise (Official & Fanmade), Fanart, Fanfictions, Page Views on the Danganronpa Wiki, The Danganronpa Wiki Character Poll, Community Feedback & Other Factors.

Q: Why aren’t Another Episde / Ultra Despair Girls or Danganronpa 3 characters here?:
This zine desires to focus on the main 3 games, as that is what most people are familiar with and will most likely have played / watched let’s plays of.
That isn’t to say we want to make people that like these to feel forgotten, but due to the large character selection as is, it would be difficult to include spinoffs or more obscure content and have every character feel included equally in some way.
This also brings in what counts as unpopular when including spinoffs, which can be difficult for things such as Danganronpa Kirigiri, Danganronpa Killer Killer, and other media that are Japanese exclusive and only available in English through fan-translations, and as a result would not be well-known to most English readers. Most characters in say, Danganronpa Togami would likely not be known by most people.

ZINE-SPECIFIC QUESTIONS:

Q: Who is all in the zine anyways?
Our character selection features 6 characters from each mainline game, for a total of 18 characters. Characters are as follows:
DR1: Hifumi Yamada, Yasuhiro Hagakure, Aoi Asahina, Sakura Ogami, Leon Kuwata, Sayaka Maizono
SDR2: Teruteru Hanamura, Nekomaru Nidai, Akane Owari, Byakuya Togami (Imposter), Mahiru Koizumi, Hiyoko Saionji
NDRV3: Ryoma Hoshi, Angie Yonaga, Tsumugi Shirogane, Kirumi Tojo, Himiko Yumeno, Tenko Chabashira
This character selection is final.

Q: Can I be sure my favorite character will appear in the zine? / Does x appear in the zine?
Yes! This zine will include every character at least one time at minimum, so there’s no need to feel worried about any character being excluded- a fate that often happens in zines. With our limited character pool, be it in 10 pages or 50, every character chosen will get something for them, be it either a written or drawn work.

Q: Are Artist / Writer collabs allowed in the zine?
Yes! Artists and writers will be given the opportunity to specify if they would like to work on a collaborative project in their appropriate application!

Q: What's a Minizine Artist?
A Minizine Artist is someone working on the Minizine, an additional small bonus-zine dedicated to the theme of 'seasons' for the zine! This will be available when you purchase a high tier!

Q: What's an Edge Artist?
An Edge Artist is someone who will be drawing images to accompany writing pieces! These can be small images of supplementary iconography within a writing piece, or an image dedicated to the writing piece depending on page space.

Q: Are contributors only allowed to create content of the characters in their school uniforms?
All contributors are allowed to create pieces with characters in any outfit they would like. It can be cool, silly, cute, or any other adjective. Please have fun if you would like! If you love a character enough to give them a different outfit, that's amazing!
All outfits must be appropriate (no hateful content, no slurs, no explicit content, etc.) and meet the zine guidelines. We do not accept any pieces where any character is depicted without clothes on.

Q: Are ships allowed in the zine?
This zine is purely platonic. There will be friendships, but nothing romantic will be in the zine.

Q: Are OC’s allowed in the zine?
We are not accepting OC’s of any sort in the zine.

Q: Are popular characters allowed in the zine at all? / Is x or x allowed in the zine?
Characters not on our list are not allowed in the zine.
We would like this zine to stick to unpopular characters only, and don’t want people to participate in this zine just so they can draw other characters in the background of their works.

Q: Who runs the zine?
There are 4 Mods! Check out our information on the Mods Page!

Q: Can a Mod also be a Contributor?
Currently we are a bit hesitant on someone being both a Moderator and a Contributor to the zine, purely due to the possibility of Mod obligations making it difficult to complete a piece within the content time frame. We hope to not spread Mods or Contributors thin, so as of now we are leaning towards Mods not being Contributors.

Q: Will Writers / Artists be allowed to post or sell their work from this Zine?
Yes, although we ask you please wait until 1 month after the Zine closes before you post or sell your work.

Q: How many pages will there be? / How much will the zine cost?
The zine will have 30 pages and the price will be $20 for the base zine. Digital Merchandise and other goods will also be purchasable in additional bundles.

Q: How many contributors will there be on this project?
There are 44 lovely people! Check out their info on the Contributors Page!

Q: How do I contribute to the zine?
If you’re interested as a customer, as any of the above, or would just like to help out of the kindness in your heart, even retweeting / reblogging posts and sharing the zine with your peers or just people that may be interested as either customers or contributors would be highly appreciated!
Please always remember to be polite however! Don’t be rude or forceful with people. Thank you!

Q: Who drew the header image / icon / post images?
Mod Saishii has drawn all the images used for the In Our Hearts Tumblr and Twitter!
All contributors can choose to use an image they have made in the past as their display icon, or can have one drawn by Mod Saishii free of charge!

MODS

Mod Saishii
- Artist, Social Media Manager, Formatting Assistant, Lead

Howdy! I'm Saishii, a 21 year old artist and the main creator of the zine! As someone that likes a lot of unpopular characters, I'm super happy to bring this zine to life in hopes that even if it isn't much, there can be a little bit more fan-related content for characters that don't often get it.
Some of my favorite characters are Ryoma Hoshi, Sayaka Maizono & Mahiru Koizumi!

Mod Llama
- Social Media Manager, Artist Liaison, Server Moderator

Hey there. I'm Llama, I'm 27 and delighted to be a mod on this zine.
While I can't fairly rank any of my favorites as unpopular, I personally believe every single character deserves love and to be appreciated, however I have a soft spot in my heart for Hifumi Yamada as a fellow content creator.

Mod Adam
- Editor, Formatter, Graphic Designer

Hello Everyone!! I’m Mod Angie, I’m 23 and I will be your Graphic Designer for this zine. Y'all can either call me Adam or Mercury. A little bit about myself, I might be a Saihara fanboy on my socials, but as a fellow artist, Angie holds a special place in my heart. I go to school full time to be a graphic designer with a minor in illustration, so y'all are more than welcome to show me your pieces if you need any critiques.

Mod Jolie
- Writing, Server Assistant

Hello! I’m Mod Sakura, a 20 year old artist and writer! I’m super excited to be working on this zine so my favorite characters get a chance to shine! I’m the Writing Mod and will be assisting writers in beta-reading, editing, and anything else they may need! This is my first zine I’ve worked on, but I am currently editor-in-chief of my college’s literary arts magazine. Some of my favorite characters are Sakura Ogami, Aoi Asahina, Teruteru Hanamura and Ryoma Hoshi!
